Mt. Daraitan is one of the best hiking spots in the beautiful province of Rizal, featuring the majestic mountains of Sierra Madre and the pristine waters of Tinipak River. Because of its proximity from Manila ,it became one of the most popular places for day trip tourist to go to.

Because of the appearances of sea of clouds formation on its highest peak , at weekends and holidays, this place is packed with people waiting in line to get the picture perfect shot of the cloud formation and its beautiful sunrise.

During my first visit at Mt. Daraitan ( 2017) I was one of the lucky ones to witness the magical formation of clouds at its peak. It was really a one of a kind experience.

How to get there?
  • From Starmall ride a jeepney / fx to Tanay, drop off will be at Tanay Palengke.
  • From Tanay Palengke ride a jeepney to Sampaloc .
  • From Sampaloc hire a trike going to the barangay hall of Daraitan to register.

Environmental Fee - 100 each
Tinipak River fee - 20
Fresh buko - 25

For our food, we just brought packed lunch to minimize the expenses.

But not to worry, if you’re not in the mood to carry heavy Tupperware’s for food ,you can just eat there at Brgy. Daraitan.

At the registration area and at the foot of the mountain, you can see small stores where you can buy home cooked foods and bottled drinks.

PS: We’re living in Tanay Rizal, so transportation was excluded in our summary of expenses . , But if you’re coming from Starmall /Shaw boulevard , safe budget for the transpo back and forth is 500-600 pesos. If you’re in a group of 5pax and above.

For the tour guide : 1250 pesos per group of 5
Environmental fee : 100 each

Nipa huts for overnight stay cost around 1k-3k depends on how big your group is. Also you can bring your own tent, there are campsites at each stations of the mountain, you can pitch your tent there for a minimal fee ( depends on which campsite you’re into )

The Climb :

On my first visit there year 2017 , we climbed upped all the way to the fourth station of the summit ( which is the highest ) for more or less 4 hours and ascending down to Tinipak River for 4 hours also. But during our recent climb this year 2019 , we only climbed the heart peak summit of Mt. Daraitan , which only took us less than 2 hours and an hour and a half going down.

This is not a beginner friendly hike, unlike the other mountains you can see here in Rizal. It’s full of ascends , spiky rocks and rock climbing just to get into the top of the summit. Make sure to bring a pair of gloves to protect your hands from the sharp stones of the mountain.

Tinipak River :
Tinipak river is divided into two there , the one inside Rizal Province boundary and the further one is the one inside Quezon province boundary .

Inside Quezon Provice Boundary

If you wish to see the amazing rock formation and cave of Tinipak River ( inside Quezon province ) , after the hike from the summit, you’ll just have to walk again for just 15 minutes. And pay an entrance fee of 20 pesos to enter.

Inside Rizal provice boundary

Another option is to just stay inside the boundaries of Rizal and just take a dip in the other river side of Tinipak river. ( You can swim here for FREE ).
